To help people to be more independent in their movements, Adeunis RF and its partner, ACTIVE AUDIO, which specialises in sound systems for public buildings, have designed a sound guidance system for the visually impaired.
CONTEXT OF USE
There are many day-to-day obstacles to be negotiated by anyone with a disability, such as crossing the road at a traffic light or a dangerous crossing for a blind person, getting your bearings in a noisy environment for a deaf person, or getting into a public building without an access ramp for the physically disabled.
ADEUNIS RF ADDED VALUE
A network of sound beacons are deployed in a district or public building and remote control units with buzzers are handed out to the disabled to help them move around easily and safely despite their disability. Together, the audio beacons form a sort of “sound travel map” that they activate wherever they are by simply pressing a button on their remote control unit. The units comply with standard NF S32-002 of December 2004.
The way in which the beacons are configured defines the sound level and the different messages. It also sets the distance at which the beacons are activated and, where necessary, allows the operator to download or modify the messages inside the “master” beacons in real time without having to travel (The concept is based on “master” beacons and “slave” beacons.)
To ensure a high acoustic quality, even in a very noisy environment (stations, airports, etc.), the beacons are placed in two loud-speakers that direct the sound: the messages are therefore intelligible, very clear and very directive, offering blind and partially-sighted people total independence of movement.
